  SPA events 2019
by: FlyingScotsman, 03-08-2018 12:21 PM (#1)

As you all know or should know the SPA are only doing 4 IM events next year, along with this we are also cutting down on Senior/Masters events and will be putting them on the same weekend, one on the Saturday and one on the Sunday. I know that some Masters players may not like this but I am trying to free up weekends badly needed for next year.

This I hope will allow more events to be done at local level, which because we have so many great tours will help them grow more.

I have also decided that the SPA will not do any IMs/Seniors/Masters during the months of June and July, with the exception of the E B which next year will be on Saturday the 27th July.

Only adding one new event next year, which will be done the exact same way as the WMc thus giving us one m,ore event of this kind, it will be named after our current Chairman Malky Cowan.

We will also be bringing forward some Scottish Championships, so that they are not all at the end of the year, this will mean that the champions of this year, may not get a full year as champions but they will still have that title for the rest of their lives.

Davy will put up the planner on our website and I promise to try my best not to change any date on there but at this time we do not know the venue/date for next years Nations which as you all know will be put on later in the year, I would hope that it is in November, it would clash with our Super events but I would just change the divisions around to suit most of the players playing in our International teams.

Ross, if your planned changes don't deliver a reduction in no-shows (at the last 128 stage so we are comparing apples with apples) at IM finals next year compared to this year, will we be reverting back to the current system for 2020?

Don't get your point, next year we are keeping the same amount of qualifiers, then in 2020 we go back to 128 at one venue.
