  Erlend Barlas Regional Championships 2019
by: FlyingScotsman, 29-03-2019 02:10 PM (#1)

Erlend Barlas Region Championships.

The format follows the Supers but will be a one day event, held on Sunday the 28th July 2019. at the Players Lounge Falkirk.

Now I know that this is a long way off but as you will see , a lot of people will be part of selecting the teams along with players may be on holiday at that time, getting polo tops, arranging friendlies, get together etc, so I want to give as much notice to all Regions as I can.

Some will come back and say why am I not involved but I have had to look at the history of pool in Scotland along with each area and try my best to give all a chance, however there may be one or two that turn down the invite to play and with that I donít mean players, I mean regions, if that happens then I will have to find replacements.

So what is the event, its a 15 person team event, with 8 Regions throughout Scotland? playing, the ? mark is there for a reason and its not for Berwick.

Round robin race to 8, once there match stops.
After all the group stages are finished, the top 6 go through to the knockout stages, with 3 v 6 and 4 v 5 top 4 , the winners of these ties play the first and second place teams in the groups, the lowest ranked team to qualify will play the team that finishes top in the semi.

Final race to 15, with the winners getting 3.5K and Runners up getting 1.5k.
Both teams get medals along with the Erland Barlas trophy for the winning team to keep for a year.

Entry fee is £500 with Players Lounge putting 1k towards the prize fund along with paying the staff wages for the day.

Now then Regions, you are asking, well here they are;

Lanarkshire [old area]
Strathclyde [old area]
Central
Highlands and Islands
Lothian/East
Tayside
Fife
Ayrshire/West

I know that a number of people will start asking questions right away about where is my league in this and I will answer them in due course but each league can be involved, subject to the selection committee agreeing and that is where perhaps a problem will happen, it is for that reason I will select one person from each Region to take control and ask them to select who they wish from that Region to help them.

Iím hoping that all teams will be kitted out great, that we all have a fantastic event and everyone enjoys themselves but lets not kid ourselves, this event will be to prove who is the best Region for pool in Scotland in 2018 along with a fantastic prize fund but always remember its named after one great guy who served the SPA for over 25 years and would love this named after him.

Just copied this from last year, maybe a few mistakes but want to get this out there now.

Since putting the post up had loads of people asking me who the selectors of each area are, well some from last year will remain the same and some others are new, full list later this week.

One change in an area, the Highlands will now be Highlands and Islands and will also include the full north, including right over to the east.

Ross, one question re the format. If the matches stop when one team get to 8, is it therefore possible if a team wins/loses all it games 8-5 as an example and a team keeps the same order that in this instance two of the players would never actually get to play a game?

It's all 15 frames played in the RR stage.

The info from Ross above states:

"Round robin race to 8, once there match stops"

My reading of this was that once a team gets 8 frames the match stops, so all 15 games wouldn't be played and hence the question

Davy is correct Ally , last year we had plenty of time and did all 15 frames, should have changed that.

8 team
4 matches a session
3 tables per match

15 frames av 8minutes on 3 tables = 40 minutes a session

every session completed before time last year
