  Coronavirus - Remaining Super 11's
by: bunkle, 10-03-2020 06:13 PM (#1)

If the situation here escalates like other countries have, are the SPA prepared to cancel or postpone these events?

I understand we will all have to follow guidlines by the authorities, like we have seen with other sporting events and gatherings.

Bunkle,

This is a very good question, and no doubt everyone involved is looking for the answer.

As it stands, there is no government advice against gatherings/events. Now that's not to say that as we approach the future events that this changes, and, if it does so, we (the SPA), will have to carefully consider this and take onboard any government advice that is published.

This doesn't completely answer your question fully, I understand that. However, it is still very early to make a fully informed decision on this matter at this time.

Michael

With Sturgeon looking to press ahead with stage 2. No outdoor crowds of more than a 1000 and indoors of more than 100 looking highly likely. Will this mean the event will be cancelled or just put back?

Quite rightly, health comes before sport. I'm sure there are players in the more vunerable groups to this virus who will be hoping to attend. Elderly, diabetic, underlying health issues etc

Even if these events go ahead, we may see teams with players/teams withdrawing not willing to take the risk.

Would teams be punished if they are unable to field a team and/or unable to attend?

Also, has there been any dialogue with Pettycur on the possibility of cancelling or postponing?

Might not just be the people with underlying health issues that cannot attend. I am an Infrastructure Manager in the NHS and may be required to work. What happens if I cannot make it and I have the hotel booked etc

Why no just scrap the drug testing and do Coronavirus testing before the event starts Smile

Wouldn't it be best if organisations such as the EBA, EBPF and SPA immediately announced the cancellation of all events without the customary shilly-shallying over making a decision?

All down to the colour of a dollar
Imagine if Brid is cancelled the amount of hotels booked
Good luck trying to get your money back!

Now inevitable surely with all major sporting events cancelled. Common sense should prevail and save players making a decision on whether to gamble on their health or a weekend of pool. Just been in a meeting on Corona and its gonna get worse before it gets better, and we are four weeks behind other countries. It not just a flu its a lot more serious than that.
