Corner Pocket Event 3 Report
Corner PocketDue to no seeding in the draws it leads to interesting matches all the way thru the event and not just at the end. First match in this ilk was Thomas McCallum who defeated multiple winner Aldo McLeod 5-3. Jayson Shaw eventually got into gear after falling 3-1 behind to beat debutant Scott Harkness who was up visiting from London and didn’t quite get to grips with the change from WR to BB rules. But probably tie of the round was Paul McCutcheon (pic below) drawn against Danny Kinney. With Paul eventually winner a 9 frame match with a 5-4 victory.

The ‘headyweight’ contest of the round was definitely Alan Maxwell vs Michael Caven, they had to move some lampshades out the way but Maxi eventually came out the 5-1 winner.

Second round began and as usual a lot of good lineups but first shock of the round was Vinnie Bimmendi’s 5-4 win over Alec McDowell. Scott Gillespie defeated the young hot prospect of Ryan Davie. Martin Wood (pic below) defeated another Scotland B player in Chris Slack 5-1.

Shaun Wishart (pic below) end Alan Maxwell’s participation with a 5-4 victory in the second round.

Onto the last 32 and everyone is safe in the knowledge that they have at least made the money stages of the event.

First match is Davy Mynt vs Stevie Walker which Davy wins quite convincingly with a 5-0 victory. Then Mark Williams makes little work of Chris Ferrier with a 5-1 win. Scott Yeaman is drawn against Paul Harkness (pic below) and this is always going to be a tight affair with Scott eventually winning 5-3

Sean Donachie (pic below) vs Keith Robertson is another interesting match up which Keith wins 5-2. Unlucky Hendo!!

Vinnie Bimendi causes another shock by defeating Steven Campbell jnr (pic below) 5-4.

Gary Gracey defeats WR stalwart Scott Kennedy (pic below) with a 5-3 victory.

Onto the last 16 and it’s getting to the stage where there are no easy games and so it proved, Paul McCutcheon ending Keith Robertsons (pic below) charge for the title.

Billy Henderson (pic below) ends Martin Woods run in the tournament.

Vinnie Bimendi continues his habit of winning 9 frame thrillers, this time knocking out Gary Gracey (pic below)

Jayson Shaw continued his run of wins over Mark Boyle (pic below) but this time by the closest margin when the match went the full distance.

Tie of the round was most definitely a re-run of the event 2 final when Scott Ross took on Pat Holtz, this time Scott getting revenge and pulling out a 5-3 win.

Onto the quarter finals and first match played was between Scott Ross and Vinnie Bimmendi, this time Vinnie never got the full distance and Scott ran out a comfortable 5-1 winner. Next up was a marathon match between Scott Yeaman (pic below) and Alan Reynolds which Alan eventually won 5-2

Next match was between two good friends in Paul McCutcheon and Scott Gillespie, with Scott eventually winning 5-2. Billy Henderson nearly provided the shot of the tournament when he was matched up with Jayson Shaw but Jayson managed to dish the deciding frame for an extremely narrow 5-4 win.

Semi finals and Scott Ross was drawn against Jayson Shaw and Scot Gillespie was drawn against Alan Reynolds.

Scott Ross played some fantastic pool and although little separated the players Scott managed to win some vital frames to run out a 5-3 winner. Alan Reynolds used his now standard safety break to devasting affect against Scott Gillespie (pic below) and he ran out a winner by the same margin.

The final was now set between Scott Ross and Alan Reynolds (both pictured below with Scott on left)

Scott is first out the traps and gets himself into an early lead which makes things very difficult for Alan Reynolds to come back from. Some of the finishes Scott took away were absolutely different class and never at any time gave Renzie much chance of staging a comeback.

Congratulations to Scott Ross, Corner Pocket Tour Event 3 Champion. (pic below being presented by Rusty, owner of Corner Pocket)

Would like to thank all the players involved in making the event such a pleasure to run, also like to thank the staff in Corner Pocket who always make the players feel welcome. Also our thanks to the Corner Pocket for sponsoring the tour and a final thanks to Chris Payne from Paisley who helped me on the day keep the tournament running so smoothly.
