2008's
Super 11's champions come from one of the SPA's more recently
registered Leagues, and following on from Clackmannan's Super 15s
victory, this should send a message out to all Leagues that anything is
possible, and its not just the "big teams" that win these events.
Paisley defeated Team Bridesmaid (aka Central Ayrshire) in a
thoroughly engrossing final. Man of the moment in the decider
for the boys from Renfrewshire was Gordon Stevenson, who had earlier in
the day, held his nerve superbly to take the another decider against
former champions Monklands. It could perhaps have all been a
different story however, had Harry Mullen potted off the break in a 9
ball re-rack against Peter Simpson in the final frame on the team
sheet, but the penultimately finished frame. Harry, however,
came up dry, and Peter stepped in to finish superbly under supreme
pressure at 5-4 down. He knew if he missed his team were out.
Peter's a seasoned campaigner though, and he took the finish
away very methodically, to give Gordon a chance in the final frame.
Gordon missed his first attempt at the black but
left his opponent very little. George Coleman tried to leave Gordon
snookered, but failed by the smallest of margins leaving Gordon the
black to win. Only the hardest of hearts will fail
to feel for Central Ayrshire though, and hopefully their name
will be on one of the trophies soon enough. In the meantime
though - lets hear it for the 2008 Super 11s champs - A big
big well done to Paisley!!
Well done
also to the Super 11s singles champion - Gerry Quigley of Motherwell A,
who beat Berwick's Scotland A International Stuart Weeks by 2 frames to
1.
